Dr. Sasirekha Raammohan
Founder and Managing Director of Kanagasabai School of Bharatanatyam ®
Sasirekha Raammohan is the founder and managing director of the Kanagasabai School of Bharatanatyam in Mylapore. She learnt her art from leading proponents of Thanjai style of Bharatanatyam – Sri. Thanjai Arunachalam Pillai and Smt. Jayalakshmi Arunachalam from the age four and completed her arangetram at the tender age of eight.
Her thirst for learning led her to the city’s leading virtuosos of Bharatanatyam. She learnt Nattuvangam under Sri. Bhagavathulu Seetharama Sharma, Guru M.V.Narasimhachari, Smt. Vasanthalakshmi Narasimhachari and Smt. Indra Rajan. She was also fortunate to learn abinaya under the tutelage of exponent Smt. Kalanidhi Narayan. She now continues her advanced training from Padmashri Chitra Visweswaran. Sasirekha is an active committee member of the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes in India (ABHAI). She is also the co-founder and treasurer of the organisation, Prayathnam, where she constantly works towards the betterment and popularisation of the art form.

Her academic prowess in Bharatanatyam includes a Doctorate from Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore and a Masters in Fine Arts from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.

Sasirekha has been conferred with the title of Kalai Chudar Mani by the state government of Tamil Nadu in 2016 as well as Nrithya Guru Chitamani by Sri Sumukhi Rajashekhar Memorial Foundation in 2018.
